Dear Families and Team,

Together, we are building a space where young women can use their voice, succeed in college, and lead meaningful and impactful lives.

We have been impacted by an unpredictable pandemic and the continued horror of racism. Our hearts go out to our families and team members who have already experienced strain and loss.

We must now confront a decision that will significantly impact every member of our school community: how will we reopen in August?

Please watch this video that highlights our plan and the information below.
Our Values
We are driven by our core values of Community, of Growth, and especially of Freedom - that we work with a feminist, antiracist lens.

We are deeply angry and saddened that our community is experiencing the highest impact of COVID-19 in Kansas City. Around the country, people of color are being disproportionately impacted. The COVID Racial Data Tracker makes the disparities clear for all people of color. It highlights the fact that “Black people account for 13% of the US population [but] 24% of deaths where race is known. This means Black people are dying at a rate nearly 2 times higher than their population share.”

We cannot ignore this reality. We know that the heightened impact of coronavirus on our school community is a result of systemic racism - of who our society values. As we plan for the new school year, we are committed to ensure the health and safety of our students, families, and team.

We also must balance the tradeoff between the potential for coronavirus transmission with the long-term social, emotional, and academic impacts of online learning.

Our Plan
As of now, we do not have a final decision on how we will reopen. We do want to keep you informed that:
  • We are considering a fully online option and a fully in person option. An overview of each is included in the survey below.
  • We will decide which option to begin the year with based on evolving public health conditions.
  • We will communicate an update no later than Monday, July 20.

We know this decision impacts our entire school community. We want to hear from you. Please take a few moments to share your input with us via this survey. We truly use this information to shape our planning. We are grateful for your ongoing partnership.

Please always feel free to contact us at 816-268-2573 or email with additional questions and feedback. We are here for you.

Sincerely yours,
